Greetings,

Denny (Dennis; as his family STILL address him) started composing music at that the tender age of 6; using his Grandmother's very old Hallet & Davis Upright piano (circa 1890). He would tinkle on the keys (quite out of tune, and missing some notes) non-nonsensically for hours each Sunday when his family visited for dinner. By the age of 9, Denny had composed his first piece of music on that old upright piano, entitled "Ballerina"

Once this was complete, and once he was satisfied with this accomplishment; he went on to compose his second piece entitled "Carnival" Both pieces can be heard here, under those titles. He went on to continue teaching himself piano, and took music at high school. He learned how to play the Tuba by grade 9; at 14 yrs of age, and was playing in all of the high school band functions. He quickly learned that Tuba is always required in a school band, and because he was the only student who could play well enough; the Music Directors always chose him to play in all of the school Musical functions and any other function requiring base horn.

Frankly, Denny learned the Tuba because he thought it was the best way he could think of to learn the bass clef! He was musically self taught for the longest time, before grade school, so this was his first opportunity at formal training.

Denny went through his melancholy years. During which he did a great deal of prose and poetry. He wrote page upon page of artistic, poetic, prosaic & lyric writing. he has a vast collection of writings spanning about 7 years. During these writing years he spent very little time composing music, rather he focused his time on simply mastering what he could of the piano; moving around a lot, he was not privy to a piano, nor did he have much access to a keyboard of any kind at times.

After some time, he settled down and finally started piano lesson with Cecile DesRosier, the principle keyboardist of the NAC Orchestra. She was a wonderful lady, very, very talented and specialized in ancient keyboards. Denny was introduced to the Virginal, the harpsichord, and the celesta. He kept up with Cecile for about 2 yrs. Denny was started in piano lessons at the grade 8 RC level; without having lessons prior to working with Ms DesRosier, to get him to that level. She thought highly of him and used him as her page turned at the piano when she did her formal concerts. This was an experience that would solidify Denny's musical future. Combined with an out of body experience at the age of 7, after hearing the sound of an authentic 1840 Music Box owned by his God Mother. It was the most incredible sound he has ever, ever heard. On it were rolls of Italian Opera Arias, mostly Puccini, Verdi .

Denny has now become a full fledged composer in his own right. His influences and inspirations are: L.Van Beethoven, the Italian School of Classical Opera: Verdi, Puccini, Leoncavallo & Rossini.  From the Classical School of Bohemian Style: Bedrich Smetana, & the Romantics: Leo Delibes, Liszt, Chopin, Borodin etc.  Notice there was no mention of Mozart? Well, as Denny has always said, the only two pieces he ever got anything from; by Mozart, was the Clarinet Concerto (loves the lower register!), and the Concerto for French Horns (the HUNTING themes we hear everywhere today!).... oh yes, and the humble Alberti Bass Line (c,g,e,g,c,g,e,g,c,g,e,g.... etc...).

Please enjoy the music as it arrives on this page! Thank you for taking the time to read Denny's Musical BIO.
